BLACK LIVES MATTER

Acrylic on canvas, 51 x 40 cm
We all know, have heard or even experienced what racism is, but I believe that with all the research, the information that has been leaked, the deaths, the families suffering, the uprising, the riots and peaceful protests, the entire world finally opened their eyes and have understood that we need change, and we need it now. That’s why I got motivated to do this piece, I think that we all understand and learn differently. Maybe, some will educate themselves and learn by reading or watching the news, or some will learn by living it themselves, or some will learn through ART. I wanted to commemorate these people and what they represent. As far as connecting it to my themes, Venezuela is the country with the highest police brutality rates in the world, actually placed number one in 2016 and the United States number placed 8. We are fighting people, from a young age we protest and are taught to fight against this type of injustice. We have 22 years fighting against this regime and we are exhausted. I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be fighting for human rights for more than 200 years and still not being heard.
